I worked at Connected Lane County, a nonprofit focused on educational and workforce opportunities for youth, where I joined initially as a marketing summer intern, then accepted a part-time position as a web developer for an additional year. With responsibilities spanning web, design, and outreach initiatives, I supported real-time organizational needs during a period of internal transition. While my work covered multiple disciplines, my main contributions included:

While my work covered multiple disciplines, my main contributions included:
Designing and launching a revamped website for the company optimized for clear brand identity and accessibility, gaining hands-on experience in live web publishing as well as design and SEO objectives.
Writing and designing external communications, including newsletters, press releases, and social media campaigns, in alignment with the company’s evolving brand.
Engaging in outreach by tabling at public events and collaborating on fundraising campaigns supporting the company’s various youth-focused programs.

I initially joined Connected Lane County as a summer marketing intern, contributing across design, outreach, and content creation. Over time, I took on increasing responsibility for the organization’s digital presence, eventually continuing part-time for the following year as their sole web developer. Without a dedicated web team, I managed live site updates, built new pages, and supported cross-functional marketing needs as they arose.

Before this internship, I had little to no experience in many design and web development tools like InDesign or WordPress. Through targeted exploration and extensive question-asking, I learned how to independently create print-ready materials and live web pages that aligned with brand standards. It wasn’t always easy, but being able to see my work go live made every challenge worth it.

With only two people on the marketing team and no dedicated web developer on staff, I stepped into that role independently, managing site updates, building new pages, and navigating the backend of WordPress with minimal guidance. Beyond development, I also contributed as a designer, writer, and outreach coordinator. Wearing multiple hats taught me how to adapt quickly, take ownership of unfamiliar tasks, and support a brand from all sides.

This was my first real workplace experience, and I learned that doing good work isn’t just about finishing tasks. It’s about taking initiative, communicating clearly, and navigating ambiguity with responsibility and curiosity.
